South Carolina First Steps

South Carolina First Steps is the state’s only dedicated, comprehensive early childhood initiative focused on getting children ready for school and life success. First Steps partners with families, early educators, and communities statewide to support the success of children from birth through age five.

In July 2021, the SC Department of Education invested $14.7 million in First Steps over three years for several early childhood initiatives, including HealthySteps. And in August 2023, Governor Henry McMaster signed a bill permanently authorizing First Steps.

Family Solutions

Family Solutions, a program of the South Carolina Office of Rural Health, is dedicated to improving the quality of life for parents and children in rural communities. Family Solutions administers the HealthySteps program within a practice locally and facilitates reflective supervision with a group of specialists throughout the state.
