HealthySteps Family Advisors

The HealthySteps Family Advisors provide valuable feedback on their experiences to help us enhance our program for all families. Each year, a new set of parents and caregivers who have participated in HealthySteps serves on the Family Advisory Group, allowing for a range of perspectives and opportunities for more families to participate.

My name is Stacie Adams, and I am a mother of 4, and I reside in Washington, DC. My children are Aiden (9), Zoe (6), Onika (3), and Ostacia (1). I have been a part of HealthySteps for 3 years. This program was very important to me because I struggled with postpartum depression, and when they offered mental health support and resources, this allowed me to parent my children with the necessary tools to thrive. HealthySteps provides support not only for the child to thrive but for the parent as well, and because of that, this is why it is a successful program. I look forward to being a HealthySteps Family Advisory Group Member because I want to support and propel this program and be that voice for other families who may not have that opportunity.

Hello, my name is Victoria Brown-Dozier and I live in Brooklyn, NY, and we participate in the HealthySteps program at BFCC. We have been a part of HealthySteps for three years. In those three years the support, care, and resources we have received from HealthySteps have been crucial in the development and success of our growing children. It’s an honor to be a part of the HealthySteps Family Advisory Group because I love this program and I believe in the mission and everyone should have access to this program. I am eager to be apart of the process that continues to move HealthySteps forward with my voice and passion.

My name is Samantha. I am a mother of four children, and I live in a rural part of upstate NY. I have had the pleasure not only of benefiting from the HealthySteps program as a mother, but also of making a difference in families’ lives, working as a HealthySteps Specialist at Mohammad Djafari, M.D. Pediatrics. As a mother, I have struggled with losing a child, depression, increased anxiety regarding my living children, accident-prone children, sick children, having a newborn during the height of COVID, vaccine nervousness, and breastfeeding struggles. Motherhood can feel like such a lonely yet wonderful experience. Knowing that I had the pediatrician and the nurse/HealthySteps Specialist to support and reassure me about even the smallest concerns made a world of difference in my ability to be a better mother to my children. That is why I support this program and look forward to contributing to and shaping the HealthySteps program through the Family Advisory Group, providing all mothers with the support they need on their individual motherhood journey.

My name is Sara El Saied. I live in Central Maryland, and my family has been participating in the HealthySteps program at the Anacostia location in Washington, DC. We have been part of the HealthySteps program since 2022. I have a 3-year-old son and 1 year 1-year-old daughter who are the light of my life and give me purpose every day. The support, care, resources and community embedded in the program has truly been a godsend as I navigated caring for a NICU baby, breastfeeding challenges, mental health and much more. I am honored and humbled at the opportunity to serve on this cohort of HealthySteps Family Advisory Group and support the mission and vision of this vital program that serves so many others nationwide.

My name is Bianca Jackson, and I live in Washington, D.C. My family participates in the HealthySteps program, and it has truly become an integral part of our community. As a mother, having access to compassionate support, helpful resources, and people who genuinely care makes such a difference in how I show up for my children.

I’m grateful for the ways HealthySteps has helped me better understand my children’s development while also supporting me as a parent. From answering questions to connecting us with services I didn’t even know were available, the guidance we’ve received has been a blessing.

Being part of the HealthySteps Family Advisory Group means a lot to me because I believe in helping other families feel seen, supported, and empowered. I’m excited to share my voice and experiences to help grow the program and ensure that more families receive the care they deserve.

My name is Sandy Rubin, and I live in Rockland County, NY. HealthySteps has been an invaluable part of our lives since my son was a newborn—he is now 12 months old. The support I’ve received from HealthySteps has been truly life-changing.

As someone who does not have much support at home, the HealthySteps team has provided me with the guidance, reassurance, and resources I need to navigate motherhood with confidence. They have helped me with so many aspects of parenting, and thanks to their support, I never feel alone in this journey.

I am honored to serve as a member of the HealthySteps Family Advisory Group and to be part of such an incredible program that makes a real difference in families’ lives.
